IN THE RED: NEVER MINE

Seven artists have been chosen to create new work in Civil Rights and Civil Wrongs: South Africa and US. Dr. Tavia La Follette is returning to collaborate with the Mattress Factory on this exhibition, the latest in a series that brings American artists and artists from countries facing human rights crises together in a virtual – and actual – dialogue. Previous projects involved artists from Egypt in 2011, and from Israel and Palestine in 2013.

”What kind of man owns a mountain? Red is understanding the landlords. The illusion of value moves across Red. But this space is a stain. This space is a cycle of production. Producing a perpetual state of Red. There is a question here. For the men who move mountains. The query rest in measure between: labor & luxury, mineral & materialism, product & protest, freedom & fashion. The space between consumer & consumed.”
